About Axles

The quad axle is a very important part of your machine. Simply put, it is nothing more than a rod passing through the swingarm of the ATV to the center of the rear wheels.

The rear axle is a common component on two wheel drive ATV's. Unfortunately, it is also subject to bending if it is treated to brutal riding conditions. A bent axle must be replaced in most cases, however, there are instances where they can be straightened using tools found in any machine shop.

Runout is the term used to describe the overall distance an axle is bent. A bent quad axles can be pressed back into its original condition using a hydraulic press or an arbor press and two V-blocks. Alxes are composed of hardened steel.

This makes them "springy" and a bit tricky to straighten. Typically, experimentation and experience are the magical combination for straightening a quad's axle.
