| Q. My taillight on my Polaris Outlaw isnt working. I tried changing the taillight bulb but it still doesn't work. Is there a fuse for the taillight bulb? A. I would suspect something is unlpugged somewhere or a broken wire in the harness. The taillight is not fused separately. If you've got good spark and new fuel that is great, but you may still have a fuel intake problem. If the atv sat around or wasn't maintained properly, you may need to clean the carb, specifically the jets. It is hard to see debris in the jet but sometimes you can actually hold it up to the light and see an obstruction. | Q. Got a National Motor quad at a yard sale,, no owners manual of course and no C.D.I. box.. It has 5 wires that appear to go to the space where the box should be.. Two wires in one plug and three wires in the other plug. The two wires go down to the stator area ( I presume to pick up the timing signal ).. From the three wire plug, One wire goes to one side of coil.one goes to other side of coil and third wire goes up the handlebars to the switch I guess. I see some 5 lug C.D.I. for sale but how do I determine which lug serves which purpose?? Changing plug shapes or styles is no problem A. You will need a manual with a wiring diagram. | Q. Have a 2002 90cc trail blazer atv (herchee motor). Electric start not working. battery and starter fine. How can i test the starter relay? Also blowing inline fuse from baterry. Any help would be appreciated. A. The starter relay is simply a 12v relay, applying 12 volts to the coil should close the larger amperage contacts in line with the starter. You can do this by pressing your start button with the ignition on. The relay should close the main contact and you should be able to see 12 volts between the ground and the contact that connects directly to the starter. Another test of the starter relay would be to jumper across the larger studs ( high amperage contacts) with a large gauge wire. This would just bypass the starter relay. Blown fuses, in many cases, are a result of bare wires contacting the frame. I would check your harnesses carefully. | Dominic asked: Apr-24-12 |

| Q. My front tire on my Suzuki Quadracer is off the bead and no matter how much air I put through the stem, I can't get it back on the rim. What can I do to get the tire seated on the rim? A. To get an atv tire seated on the rim you can do a few things. You can use a ratchet strap around the center of the tire, tighten up until the center of the tire is squashed, the tire should be forced out to the rim where it should hold air. You could alos us a piece of rope and a long wrench or bar. Tie the rope around the center of the tire and use the wrench or bar to twist the rope and tightwen it like a tire tourniquet. So many of the Chinese atv's have gone defunct it's hard to keep track. I usually point people toward eBay for parts that look and measure the same as the parts they need. Also you can check the wiring leading the the pickup on the stator, You may even want to pull the flywheel cover and have a look. As Panterra atv parts become more scarce, I simply refer more and more people over to eBay and even Craigslist. You may get lucky and someone can have your required parts listed for sale. Fortunately, a hub could be replaced with a different brand based on its measurements and bolt pattern. If the engine is idling higher than normal this would be the throttle cable or idle adjustment screw on the carb. It could also be affected by the fuel/air mixture screw on the carb. Get the quad set up with a block under the rear end for safety and you can carefully make adjustments while the engine is at idle. You should be able to adjust the throttle cable at either end. You should physically measure the battery box to ensure the new battery will fit inside. There is no specific part number needed. | Q. More spark questions manco talon. Checked every connector no problems found. Have 12v to both terminals at coil. Pick up in motor case ohmed out at 250 ohms. How do I know if it's pulsating signal to cdi? Coil makes spark on 1st revolution of engine. Prob not coil right! Could pickup or cdi be bad? A. I would not suspect a coil in this instance, but this is an unusual problem, and CDI issues are difficult to prove without replacing it with a new one. If all wiring checks out and I had to guess at a bad component, I would lean toward the cdi, but this is where you may have to throw parts at it.
