| Q. I have a Honda trx 350cc quad bike. I think the cid unit is faulty. Please advise what voltage should come out of it on the black and yellow wire when cranking and also if you have a unit? A. CDI units are difficult to troubleshoot and actual troubleshooting procedures are rarely available. | Q. traded a boat for a kasea cleaned carb starts right up runs on the flat surface ok but try to go up any lillte hill and has no power, goeas great downhill, how do i fix this? A. Sounds like a float problem. The float may be getting stuck. If you've cleaned the carb bowl already, it may be a maladjusted float. | Q. My Kawasaki Tecate has a cracked exhaust pipe. I have heard it can be fixed, is this true or should I look into buying another Tecate exhaust pipe? A. It is true that an exhaust pipe can be welded, however it depends on a few factors including where the crack is located as well as how big is the crack in the pipe. Call a local welding shop for prices before you take the exhaust pipe anywhere to be welded because prices can vary tremendously. After welding, you'll also need to determine why it cracked in the first place, missing springs or improperly seated, etc. Pipes on Tecate quads or any atvs would typically not crack unless under stress. | Josh asked: Jul-30-12 |

| Q. i have a madami big daddy 260 atv it turns over but wont fire ran fine then we filled it up with gas then it reved up real high n died now it just turns over but wont start A. The high revving of the engine leads me to believe you should check the piston compression. This can be done with a standard compression tester available in any auto parts store if you don't already have one. I would verify there is no probelms with the piston first. You can also check to see that it has spark by removing the spark plug, grounding it out to the engine case, and trying to start it. | crystal asked: Jul-02-12 |

The cdi unit is another culprit but difficult to troubleshoot other than replacing with a known good one. Lack of spark should be investigated throughly before buying a cdi unit however. It could be as simple as a bad ground, a short to ground, or broken wire. If you have the wiring diagram and an ohmeter you can follow the circuit to be sure it is not a wiring issue.
